New Smyrna Beach has popular cultural events to enjoy all year long when you visit for a short or long beach getaway. There is always something going on for you to enjoy during your visit. The summer might just be the best season of all.
Below are a few events to keep on your radar this year.
New Smyrna Beach Blues Festival
Happening early on in the summer season, this year’s Blues Festival is from May 10th to the 13th. The full schedule is not yet listed but it is expected to begin in the late afternoon and run to about 10 p.m.
Enjoy soulful blues musicians coming to New Smyrna Beach during a four-day music festival highlighting one of the country’s best-loved genres. Live bands play the whole weekend in various venues. The festival is filled with history, tradition, and diversity.
Kick off your summer the right way with a weekend filled with incredible music. This event is totally free and takes place right on Flagler Avenue.
New Smyrna Beach Kite Festival
On the weekend of June 2nd and 3rd, dozens of colorful kites will fill the beach just south of Flagler Avenue. The event begins at 11 a.m. and continues to about 3 p.m.
An ideal summer event for the entire family, this festival includes tethered kites, kite demonstrations, and even competitions. There’s also a kids’ zone that will give free kites to the first 400 children who stop by on each day of the festival. Additionally, there’s a decorating station to customize your kite.
Annual Seaside Fiesta
On June 21st, the Annual Seaside Fiesta event boasts entertainment, food, games, crafts and more. Happening on Flagler Avenue, the family-friendly event provides a memorable night of street food and celebrating the history of the area. This event is one that brings out families all across the area and will give you a chance to enjoy traditional carnival fun. Check out local artists, musical performers, and a Kids Zone for a night of fun.
The 30th annual event is June 21st, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. It encompasses all of Flagler Avenue.
New Smyrna Beach Reggae & Island Music Festival
Enjoy a weekend in mid-June filled with everything “reggae” and “island”! The New Smyrna Beach Reggae & Island Music Festival sets up musical acts across the whole city for a weekend of fun that will make you feel like you are in the Caribbean without having to go far.
Celebrate this popular music genre with live bands, meet and greets, and free giveaways throughout the weekend. All performances are free, and there are no cover charges to enjoy this fun festival.
The event is June 21st to June 24th. It is completely free and is expected to start in the afternoon and end sometime in the early evening. More details will be available as the event approaches.
New Smyrna Beach Shrimp & Seafood Festival
The New Smyrna Beach Shrimp and Seafood Festival takes place at the beginning of August every year and is one of the area’s most anticipated food-related events.
A portion of Flagler Ave is closed down to host dozens of local restaurants that set up along the street. The perfect event for any seafood lovers, you’ll have the chance to sample tons of enticing dishes at low prices.
The restaurants will compete for prizes with their dishes. There’s also live entertainment, arts and crafts booths and more. The family-friendly event is a huge block party, and nearby bars and restaurants generally have their own entertainment as well as drink specials throughout the day.
The 2018 event is tentatively scheduled for August 2nd. It is planned to begin at 5 p.m. and end at 9 p.m.
